Rule Variances - Additional Charges, Extended Amount Variance, and Price Variance
This article explains the Variance settings for the Additional Charges rules, Extended Amount Variance rule, and the Price Variance rule. For each rule, "Over Variance" can be set to look at a Hard Value, Percentage, or both; the same is true for "Under Variance"

The Additional Charge rules can be set to have the Variances depend on either the details of the invoice itself (Unit Charge) or by a "Registered Charge"
A "Registered Charge" is a PO Line items that is designated as a Freight/Tax/Misc charge by a column in the PO Masterfile data. Using this type of Variance required additional configuration.
The below table shows the Variance options for each type of charge, and how they function:
| Additional Charges - [Charge] ————— Unit Charge | ||
| Variance | Functionality | Example |
| Over Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Additional Charge on the invoice is greater the configured hard value. |
Setting: 500 |
| Over Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Additional Charge on the invoice is more than the configured percentage of the invoice subtotal (excluding the additional charges). | Setting: 5% Held if: An invoice with a subtotal (excluding additional charges) of 100 has an additional charge of this type greater than $5.00 |
| Under Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Additional Charge on the invoice is less than (0 - the configured hard value). |
Setting: 10 |
| Under Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Additional Charge on the invoice is less than (100% - the configured percentage) of the invoice total (including the additional charges). | Setting: 90% Held if: An invoice with a total (including additional charges) of 100 has an additional charge of this type less than $10.00 |
| Additional Charges - [Charge] ————— Registered Charge | ||
| Variance | Functionality | Example |
| Over Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice for the Registered Charge line item is higher than the PO Extended Amount by more than the configured hard value. |
Setting: 5 |
| Over Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice for the Registered Charge line item is higher than the PO Extended Amount by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a Registered Charge of $100, the invoice line has an extended amount of more than $105 |
| Under Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice for the Registered Charge line item is lower than the PO Extended Amount by more than the configured hard value. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a Registered Charge of $20, the invoice line has an extended amount of less than $15 |
| Under Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice for the Registered Charge line item is lower than the PO Extended Amount by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a Registered Charge of $100, the invoice line has an extended amount of less than $95 |
Extended Amount Variance Tolerances
The Extended Amount Variance hold is configured to hold invoices if the Extended Amount of an invoice line is greater or less than the paired PO Line's Extended Amount by a configured amount. The below table explains how these Variance settings function:
| Extended Amount Variance | ||
| Variance | Functionality | Example |
| Over Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice line is higher than the associated PO Line's Extended Amount by more than the configured hard value. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with an extended amount of $20, the invoice line has an extended amount of more than $25 |
| Over Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice line is greater than the associated PO Line's Extended Amount by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with an extended amount of $100, the invoice line has an extended amount of more than $105 |
| Under Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice line is lower than the associated PO Line's Extended Amount by more than the configured hard value. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with an extended amount of $20, the invoice line has an extended amount of less than $15 |
| Under Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Extended Amount on the invoice line is lower than the associated PO Line's Extended Amount by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with an extended amount of $100, the invoice line has an extended amount of less than $95 |
Price Variance Tolerances
The Price Variance hold is configured to hold invoices if the Unit Price of an invoice line is greater or less than the paired PO Line's Unit Price by a configured amount. The below table explains how these Variance settings function
| Price Variance | ||
| Variance | Functionality | Example |
| Over Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Unit Price on the invoice line is higher than the associated PO Line's Unit Price by more than the configured hard value. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with a Unit Price of $20, the invoice line has a Unit Price of more than $25 |
| Over Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Unit Price on the invoice line is greater than the associated PO Line's Unit Price by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with a Unit Price of $100, the invoice line has a Unit Price of more than $105 |
| Under Variance Hard Value | The invoice will be held if the Unit Price on the invoice line is lower than the associated PO Line's Unit Price by more than the configured hard value. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with a Unit Price of $20, the invoice line has a Unit Price of less than $15 |
| Under Variance Percentage | The invoice will be held if the Unit Price on the invoice line is lower than the associated PO Line's Unit Price by more than the configured percentage of the charge. | Setting: 5 Held if: For a PO Line with a Unit Price of $100, the invoice line has a Unit Price of less than $95 |
